Description

DMC bring to you once again the hugely popular FREE download of the 2010 Open Championship at St Andrews. Showing dynamic, high quality aerial photographs of the oldest golf course in the world.

The FREE download comes ahead of the imminent launch of the full app which is expected to be released in a few weeks. The full app offers the same functionality as seen within this FREE app, but one price covers over 2000 courses in the UK, and will be retailed through the App Store at £14.99.

Via the photograph from a £1 million camera (and not just taken off Google Earth like so many other apps), the application shows distances from where you are standing to all the key features on the hole displayed within the red boxes such as bunkers, gorse, paths etc and also displayed in the black box the distance from those key focus point to either the front or the middle of the green, depending on which setting you choose, as well as yards or metres. This is done so you can best use the information for your course management when playing – just like the pro’s do, and what you read about all the time in the magazines!

Also built into the application is a manual over-ride, so if the GPS is not performing too accurately on the day, or indeed to preserve the phone’s battery life, then by placing the crosshair where you are on the photo, the exact distances as described above will be relayed again.

Highly accurate arcs are also placed over the image, to make distance information even more readily available, very similar to those we have grown familiar with in paper-based course guides.

Some golfers prefer to see a tabular list of the distances, so this is provided too, showing readouts of how far it is to the front of the feature, the distance from the front of the feature to the green, and also the distance to the back of the feature, so all the information is supplied. This has been done in accordance with the wishes of the many caddies and players within the European Tour who have all given invaluable feedback on what is required, and how best distance information can be displayed.

Simple one touch navigation between holes and the different types of readouts are key, making it one of the most simple yet effective golf GPS apps to come onto the market.

We hope you enjoy the FREE app, and look forward to hearing from you when the full application goes live in a few weeks time.
